Sometimes you have to get rid of the weeds in your life. I thought about this one Sunday morning.
Getting rid of weeds in our lives
It was a typical Sunday morning after Church. Pulling into the driveway of our house, I got out of the car and proceeded to do what I do 30% of the time. I spent a few seconds pulling weeds off of the plants that line my driveway. I do it because, if you are not careful, they will take over.
Weed and people behavior
The behavior of one of these weeds grabbed my attention. It starts at the bottom and wraps its way to the top of the plant. As I pulled the weed away, I thought about people who behave like those weeds. They wrap themselves around you while you do all the work, but it looks like they are doing it too. You come in early and they come in late but they work with you. They take long breaks while you work and at the end of the day, they get an unfair portion of the credit. There does come a point where we have to do some weeding.
If you do not look too closely, you can’t tell the difference to the weed and the plant. And if you wait too long, it will be too late because the weeds will take over. That’s why I occasionally stop and pull them out. Also, it is pretty easy to know when to pull the green weeds, but the people-weeds are a different story. Jesus could have cut Judas a loose anytime and Paul could have ostracized Mark anytime, however, they did it at specific times.
When to pull weeds
So when do you do it. When do you have a meeting of the minds that may result in separation? Two considerations might help with this question. First, if there are more weeds than plants then it may be time to do some pulling. Second, if you are being disrespected by the powers that be, then it might be time to draw you line in the sand. Thirdly, if the work is being hindered then it may be time to do some pulling. Maybe you have been relied on too much and it is time for others to be responsible.
In the hope that it will be, let me relate a personal habit that I have on this subject. I don’t always know that the decisions that I make are God’s will. There are some people who declare that they know and they know absolutely, and God bless ‘em. I don’t always know but I almost always try to move according to His will, therefore, when I make decisions that I am uncertain about, I ask God to take my uncertain decisions and make them good. That means that I accept whatever changes He wants to make with them and I believe He does. In fact I know He does because all things work together for good to those who love the Lord and I do love Him.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28.)

From Carrington Smith – July 4th
Please acknowledge that this not just your personal opinion, but many of us believe that in order to be a Christian you must be totally passive. They believe that we should allow people to do whatever they want to us. I believe that we should listen to God’s guidance in a meaningful way at all times. Granted that no one that I know, knows everything. Fighting does not mean that your fist has to be balled up. It does not mean that you need to shout out mean and ugly things just to keep the devil in his place. Fighting to me includes taking care of what God has given me.
If I was on a ship and somehow ended up in the ocean. I would be fighting to stay alive as well as helping others to do the same. Weeds have an amazing growth possibility. They often grow so well because we do things to feed them. Many of us complain about ants and roaches, but I have witnessed those of us who feed them. Those pests are going to stay around because they make out better around us than they would in the wild. It’s the same thing with weeds.
The problem challenge that we all face is that we get caught up with who a person is, as it relates to us, instead of taking a look at what they do. If a person is blocking me from what I know that God has called me to do and they are intentional about it, then we must understand this. If I don’t spray then their behavior will stay.
