Renew Your Mind – Third TfTD from Last Sunday’s Sermon

Paul said in Romans 12:2:

“Be ye transformed by the renewing of your minds.”

Last week we talked about the fact that we are transformed by the renewing of our minds. And how do you renew your mind? You clean it up. Our minds are susceptible to trash.

I have a big rug in our livingroom. I say, “our”, to include my wife of 41 years this Monday. Anyway, the rug shows up dirt and if I don’t vacuum that rug every 2 days it begins to look dirty. The other day I took a soft-bristled brush and began washing the walls. It is amazing how dirty the walls get even when you hardly touch them but the point is that we take the time to clean rugs, walls, and other things but we do not take time to clean our minds. If our minds are never cleaned, they get dirty, and, believe me, the dirt shows up.

The question is, “How does one go about cleaning one’s mind?” The answer is that Bible Study is one of several ways that is recommended in Scripture to clean up as hinted at in Titus 3:5. That is why real Bible Study is so important. There are other ways, but Bible Study and meditating on God’s word is the subject at this point. I love Bible Study, especially when sparks of light start to enter my brain and inspire me towards right thinking and good behaviors.

Listen. I am a bad boy. I go into bad places and I deal with bad people like me. Yes. I do go in to help them but in the process, I get dirty and I have to come away and take bath, so I bath myself in God’s Words.

I hope this helps.

  1. I went to a church recently and the sermonic title was “Trash Day”. The number one question was “How often do you take out the trash?” It reminded me of this lady who didn’t have a trash can in her house because she refused to have trash in her house. Anonymous
