The photo was taken after a 4-mile jog in the park.
I have always felt like I was the oddest man in America. The reason that I felt that way is because I do not watch football. I am not always, but sometimes embarrassed by it, especially when a stranger on an elevator asks me how I liked the game last night and I have to quickly come up with something to say. Whenever I have that thing in my hand that seems to frustrate wives, called, “the remote”, I will flip past the football games to an old Turner Classic Movie (TCM), to one of those old Cowboy pictures with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, or to an HGTV home improvement show.
I am not against football. I just do not have a desire to watch it. It is as if, when God made made me He omitted the football plugin. I actually had a thought, the other day, and the thought went like this:
“Just as I have no desire to watch football, many people have no desire for Bible Study. People are so invested in football that they know the abilities of the players. They know the details about the teams that make them likely to win, and they will get their favorite food and drink and sit together and have a high old time enjoying the game. There’s nothing wrong with that. Sometimes I wish I had that desire, but I don’t have it. So I was thinking that people have a desire for football in a similar way that I have a desire for studying God’s Word. I do not have to make myself study it, I just do it.”
PS: The reason I wrote this TfTD was not to indict anyone, or put them on a guilt trip for not coming to Bible Study. Your choice is your choice. I wrote it because I was trying to understand it for myself and maybe the plugin thing is one possible explanation. Of course, it could also be that the one who leads the Bible Study is not all that good either. That would be me. My pastor friends also make similar observations about Bible Study. I am definitely a live-and-let-live, kind of a guy, so to each his own.
But finally, I am aware of some of my shortcomings and sometimes that awareness is so accute that it almost overwhelms me and I frequently go to the Word of God to help me with those. II Timothy 3:16 says that it can help with all of that.
“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
I know that I am a much better person than I use to be, all because of the Word of God, more thoughtful, more loving, and certainly, more insightful and the first step is to invite Him into one’s life. When that happens, He saves you and a new you emerges day by day.

First Down: John 3:16!
Halftime: John 14:14! 😂
Good comments today.

Football (and sports in general).
Although they are few, you are not the only make who does not watch football.
I am just the opposite.
On most Saturdays you will find me watching College football and communicating with folks who do also
You should nit be embarrassed because you do not watch football.
I made my High School football team but had to be cut because I chose working at Cafritz Hospital instead of working.
I next played football at The District of Columbia Teachers College
While working at the Separtmebt of Defense, I was the point guard for our team.
My Chief was a 6″ 10 Center, and could have played professionally.
He would call everyday and ask if I would be playing during our lunch break.
My superior never engaged in sports –period.
During our games, the Chuef would often share with me things that was going on in the agency.
My superior (again who did not play basketball) would often ask me how I knew certain things.
One day, after a game, the Chief informed
Me that I was being promoted to Senior Manager.
The next day, I informed my superiior to start training someone else to take over the budget and all of my other responsibilities.
Two weeks later, after learning if my promotion, my boss stated, “I am going to try to make the basketball team”.
I guess my point is, important decisions are made via sports.
There is absolutely nothing wrong wit nit watching sports though.

Thanks. You know, that you and I were also on the wrestling team, and I ran track a little until work after school took over. Football is good because it provides for good conversation and fellowship so I surely do see the positive sides of it. When I did watch, I was more interested in seeing the college ball. Sorry I did not call you yesterday as promised but after taking care of a sick wife, I crashed and burned for a while.
