I love the study of Scripture. It is like classical music. At first it seems boring. Ok. I am known for speaking the truth, so at first it seems boring, to me anyway. But if you keep chewing on it, it will blow your mind.
John MacArthur said, “Doubt” is a believer’s problem.” When I heard him said that, I scanned the New Testament in my mind and sure enough I found doubt to be a believer’s problem.
That discovery blew my mind. It actually made me feel not so heretical when doubts creep, yes, I said “creep”, into my life. They usually come riding on some kind of disappointment. Perhaps I had a false expectation that I finally realize isn’t going to happen and doubt crept in. Sometimes it comes riding on the back of a catastrophe like the death of a loved one. Most times it comes on the back of some failure or delay to answered prayer
.
The Scriptures recommend several cures for doubt and I will point out two of them.
1. Go to a person who is known for encouragement. God bless the memory of Sister Amy Douglas. I was 19 and she was 80 years old. She was a member of a Church that I was a member of. I never called her to cry or complain but she always seemed to know that I needed encouragement and she just automatically gave it.
2. Go to Scripture. Focus on God and His trustworthiness. Focus on Isaiah 40, and Galatians 6:9. And, yes
3. Go to my Thoughts For The Day. There are a lot of encouraging thoughts in there. Read one.
And have a great day.
