From A Muslim Friend

As a Christian and more importantly as a person I am proud to say that I have a few friends who happen to be Islamic.  My neighbor next door is one of the best neighbors that one can hope for.

One such friend said something that I never forgot and there is also something about his statement that gives me a sense of partial resolve.  I worked with him for about ten years and he responded to something that I said to him at which point he stopped, took a thoughtful look at the floor, batted his eyes in his own whimsical way and responded,

Perry, it’s the same all over the world.  The strong exploit the weak.

By that statement I knew that he meant that the rich exploit the poor, those who live behind  brick and motar exploit those who live in shacks.  This was particularly meaningful  to me for two reasons, one of which is because I saw him as rich and powerful.  Another reason is because he has been blessed to travel the world over on many occasions and he has seen this played out while he himself struggled to elevate the living conditions of the poor.

But isn’t it wonderful to know that a great day is coming when the last shall truly be first?  It will be a day when the sun will set for the last time, a day in when the the Ruler will rule forever with a hand of MERCY and a heart of love.  Who said that they are not writing good Christian songs today?

One day we will realize that we all breathe the same air. One of the things that I like about when it snows is that someone will come to my door and ask if I have an extra snow shovel. When someone needs to get our of a “stuck” position, then all of a sudden we don’t check their footprint. I am trying my best to let God sort much of that stuff out. In the mean time, I pray for us all.
