Have you noticed the various places from which God spoke, in the Bible, when He was trying to get something done through His people? Think about it.
1. He spoke to Moses, in a hot desert, out a bush that was literally blazing. The bush was probably hotter than the desert he was in.
2. He again, spoke to Moses on top of an electrified and thunderous mountain. Moses had to brave the climate of this thunderous mountain to get God’s message.
3. He spoke to Elijah, a prophet who was depressed. He spoke in a still, small voice. The voice was surrounded by a wind that was so strong that it split the rocks into pieces. And get this: He infused an already chaotic event with an earthquake. Elijah was ready to give up but God had a message for him.
4. Ezekiel, in Chapter 1:4 said he saw a windstorm coming out of the north. It was God coming to speak to him and later He spoke to Ezekiel in a valley of dried up bones. He had an assignment for Ezekiel.
5. It was only after Saul got knocked off of his high horse that he heard God speaking to him.
Need I speak of Isaiah when God asked, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for me?” Isaiah said, “Woe is me. I am undone.” In today’s vernacular, it means, “I’m done for.” God had something He wanted done.
My brother, and my sister, if life is particularly difficult for you right now; if it is particularly thunderous, risky and shaky, hang in there. Listen for God’s assignment. I believe he has a message for us. Far be it from me to say that I know definitively what that message is. However, I know that His message to each of those prophets was specific to their time and their culture. And I know that He has your best in mind.
In the meantime, be stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. (I Cor. 15:58)
