“Turn to me and be gracious to me, after Your manner with those who love Your name.” (Psalm 119:132)
“Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the servant’s eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” (2 Kings 6:17)
Do you need special grace? Ask the average Christian if they have received it and they will say, “Yes. He woke me up this morning.” But that is not special grace. That is general grace. Special grace is something that we receive that is out of the ordinary.
Psalm 119:132 talks about graciousness as a manner of God. It is characteristic of the way God deals with His people. Let’s be real. God is gracious to everybody, but there are times when He gives us special grace, because we need it at that particular time.
I experienced it last Christmas when I was sitting in my daughter’s living room and I realized that all of my family were together again, accept one who was with us in spirit. She, could not be physically present but her spirit filled our hearts. We grew together as a family and colleges and jobs took our family in different directions. But when God opened my eyes to see that we were back together again physically and, mostly importantly, spiritually, I wanted to cry. It was the opening of my eyes to see the special grace that I needed at that moment. There I was with wife, children and new children
Sometimes we need special grace and we need to see it. It happened in the Bible. In 2 Kings 6:17 the enemy surrounded the young Prophet Elisha and he asked the elder Prophet Elijah what to do about it. Elijah asked God to open Elisha’s eyes so that he could see all the support God had provided for him. When God opened his eyes he saw that the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire to support him in his cause. What grace that was! Elijah needed to see it and he saw it.
It is good for the child of God to know that graciousness is characteristic of the way God deals with His children and sometimes He opens our eyes so that we can see it.
God bless.
