Ten Happy Things

Dear Readers,

What are the top ten things that make you happiest? I ask this question because the Bible says that those are the things that we ought to think about. It could help us counter-balance the numerous things that make us sad. It says:

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things arepure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)

Let me share with you my top ten things and then at the bottom of the list, I will give an explanation of some of them.

My Top Ten

Here they are in no particular order of importance or effect upon my happy decibels.

1. Connecting with old friends and classmates.
2. Having fellowship with people that that I am convinced love me.

My Explanations

Old friends and classmates remind me of the good times we had and the farther back I go, the happier it makes me. While we did not have many material things, we had each other. As far as people who genuinely love me, there is something very grounding about sitting down with a cup of coffee or a few minutes over the phone, and just rubbing each other’s aching spirits. After a good jog, I enjoy finding a quiet place where I can reflect see how beautifully God’s Word applies to life.

There is nothing a good father enjoys more than seeing his children do well in their jobs and their relationships. Good fathers become ecstatic when they see his children in relationships that are good for them. As far as a stellar church service: I am a pastor: so figure that one out.

Okay, so youtube connects me with enjoyable parts of the pas with programs like, “Where the Action is”, “Shindig” and others. Man! The music back then was so qualitative and awesome! I love the fact that I can still see it on youtube. And by the way, I will slip playing the piano as one of my top joys.

Also, I just love it when a light comes on in my head and I suddenly understand some of the what’s, why’s, and how-to’s of life. And that also jibes with the joy I find when I speak with or read deep thinkers like, Dr. James Boice, Tim Keller, Reinhold Neibur, my children, one of my nieces, Kierkegard, Lancaster Bible College\Capital Bible Seminary professors who help me to deepen my own thinking and thus improve my behaviors.

Well those are a few things that make me happy. What about you? I do hope that you share with me the things that make you happy. I am very interested in what makes people happy because it provides hints about what is important to them.
