Becoming My Message

Becoming a powerful messenger
Become your message

Do you want to become a more powerful speaker, preacher or blogger for that matter? Become your message. The most powerful bloggers and speakers are those who personify the messages that they deliver.

This idea came to me when I focussed on John the Baptist. He embodied this element that is easily detected in many powerful messengers. He became a huge part of the message that he delivered.

Embody Your Message

It was as if aspects of the message seized control of his mind and manner and he became the personification of his message.  WOW! Examples of this idea emerge when we consider that the message was radical and so what he. I mean, really — you have to be radical in order to preach radically. The place where he preached was radical. The desert was his pulpit. It was obviously powerful because it was so compelling that it drew people to the desert so that they could experience the power of this man who was his message.

Also, by 21st century standards, he was a wild man. His food was wild. He ate locust and wild honey. I realize that, “wild”, is a relative term because what may appear to be wild to one person may tame to another person. However, speaking through conservative 21st century eyes, his clothing was wild. He wore camel’s hair! His food, his clothes and his pulpit embodied his radical message. Sometimes, one does have to get radical to effect needed changes and John’s message was radical. He said, “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand”, and that is radical.

Embrace your created purpose

The powerful person

These easily detectable elements in John’s presentation made him a powerful communicator. God made him that way from birth and he fully embraced it. I remembered reading in Luke 1:39-45 where Mary visits Elizabeth. They were both pregnant, Mary with Jesus and Elizabeth with John. When Mary came near Elizabeth, John’s passion surfaced in unbridled joy. The Bible says that John leaped in Elizabeth’s womb. Hence, he was that way from birth and as he grew up, he embraced it. His words were radical. He was radical. There was no mismatch of message and messenger. They were one in the same. Therefore, I have observed that the most powerful bloggers, speakers and preachers are those who become the messages that they communicate.

Wax eloquent in your presentation

Waxing eloquent

Also, as much as I love the voice of Rev. James Cleveland and the biblical emphasis of Dr. James Boice, I know that God did not call me to be these men. He called me to be the person that I am and it is to the extent that I embrace who I am that I become my message. Also, I also noticed that it is to the extent that become my message, I that become more powerful. I encourage each reader to do the same. If you are conservative then I encourage you to wax eloquent in your conservative demeanor. Perhaps you were made for details, so if like details then dive into the details and make us see the beauty of it. If God made you fearless, then let her rip.

Hopefully, one radical example of becoming the message will drive the point home. I will be raw in my wording.

Many of the people of my generation will remember Petey Greene. Petey Greene was a powerful television personality. He was a powerful comedian and commentator. I refrain from calling him ignorant because I do not believe that he was ignorant, however, he did use ignorance to get his message across and he did it well. In front of the cameras and the lights he was smart enough to become ignorant. Yes, he used it. He became ignorant and people tuned in to watch him. They watched him dedicate an entire half hour on, “How to eat watermelon”. Was it ignorant, powerful, smart, or all three? Take your pick. People watched.

Finally, I ask one thing and that is, that God grant me the ability to become the message that He has given me to present to the world.
