Hello Brothers and Sisters.
As I sit here, having finished a cup of coffee, responded to an email and made out a grocery list for a Ceasar Salad that I am going to make later today, I was getting ready to crack open the Word of God. Actually, they are already open. Yesterday, I left them opened on the pages that I was studying for a sermon that I am suppose to preach on tomorrow.
And, yes, I did say, “them”. I have several Bibles, but I use two of them frequently. I have my Thompson Chain Reference Bible, NASB Version, and my MacArthur Study Bible, NIV version, cracked open because tomorrow I want to be cocked and loaded with something that is more powerful than an AKA-47. (Don’t be put off by the gun reference. I am not a fan of the guns today. But when Jesus met the woman at the well He was cocked and loaded with the Word. Tomorrow I want to be cocked and LOADED with the Word. In fact I want to be that way every single day of my life.)
Anyway, as I was about to go to the Word of God, the thought came to me that preachers, who faithfully study — notice that I said, “preachers WHO faithfully study” — the Word of God, and others who faithfully study, have to be some of the most blessed people in the world, because those nuggets from heaven have to impact them first before they share them with others.
I will never forget that a professor of mine, who taught a class in Pastoral Theology, said that a good preacher’s office will always have at least 3 things in it. It will have a Bible, a full trash can and tear stains on his desk. He must have the Bible because if there is no Word, there is no gospel preaching, a full trash can because the things that he or she thought was a good idea to preach, he finds upon further study that a lot of things he started out to preach was not biblical, and tear stains because the Word of God is so powerful that it impacts him in the study before he preaches.
I pray that the Word of God impacts your life very deeply today. I know it does mine.
