A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight. When pride comes, then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom. The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the crookedness of the treacherous will destroy them. (Prov. 11:1-3)
My last TfTD was called, “I Get It”. This one is called, “I Got It”.
This thought came about while driving my car yesterday. Something caused me think about what was one of the most beneficial things my parents, Nathaniel and Frances Radford left with us when the word, “Honesty” came up as the answer. I began to think about synonyms for honesty like, “integrity” and, “uprightness”. The most beneficial thing that they left with me was not a car or a big stash of money, but a character trait. I thought about how we live in a society where honesty is generally lost because people seem like they tell lies without any conscience, people cheat without any conscience and they will declare that they were not doing anything wrong when they clearly were.
I also began to think about how a sense of honesty and integrity got me into some choice places in my career that abilities alone could not get me. I was a minority in my career, but I believe that in each choice position that I eventually rose to, occurred because God caused someone to recognize that sense of honesty\integrity and they invited me to come and work with, for, and in some cases, over people.
I also thought some of the behaviors that honesty causes. For example, honesty will inspire dedication to work because our work reflects our integrity. It will inspire dedication to family because if honest people are not the best brother, sister, husband, father or friend, then they don’t feel right.
Finally, I traveled the world a little bit. I got to see some things that my dime could not afford, all because someone saw my character and God put me in their hearts. So, thanks to Nathaniel and Frances Radford. They gave it and I got it.
PS: The entire chapter of Proverbs 11 is about honesty and integrity. I highly recommend it for reading and adopting as part of life. It is very beneficial.
