Last week I began my sermon stating that people do not actually want to hear solid Biblical messages, especially the doctrinal ones. They don’t want to hear about justification and sanctification. They want to hear the, “feel good”, kind of messages that feed the ego. But the doctrinal messages of things like sanctification, justification and regeneration are rudimentary. They reveal the mechanics of how the Christian life works, or is suppose to work. It is amazing that if we get the rudimentary things right, that is, “get them properly understood, received and practiced”, then all of those others things that we are so concerned about in life begin to line up in their proper place. Matthew put it concisely when he said:
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)
David said the same thing in another way. He said:
“Delight thyself also in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4)
I studied the doctrine of regeneration and it was so powerful that it blew me away.
