Last Sunday I made the point in my message that Job’s 3 friends came to but they did not come through. What I am saying is that they came to see him and comfort him but they ended up adding insult to injury. In Job 2:11-13 they did come to comfort him.
11 When Job’s three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite, heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him. 12 When they saw him from a distance, they could hardly recognize him; they began to weep aloud, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads. 13 Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him, because they saw how great his suffering was.
In Job 4 and forward, beginning with Eliphaz, they ended up adding insult to injury and in Job 42:7-9 God chastises them for not coming through.
I thank God that I have the kind of siblings who have come through for me. But this is not really about who comes through for me. This is about encouraging us to come through for others.
Of course, Jesus is the ultimate example of one who came through for us at Calvary. Let us endeavor to follow His example.
