A Different Kind of Christmas

The above picture is the Church I attended in Rhodell, West Virginia.  Dad was a deacon there and we experienced many warm Christmas’

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

“Glory to God in the highest,

And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

Surely that night in the field represented a different kind of Christmas.

Are you doing anything different this Christmas? I encourage you to pray about it and act on what God tells you after you pray about.

Many people are satisfied with their past Christmas’ so they do not feel a need to do anything different.  I am not in that category.

The changing world and the struggle to survive in it with tight schedules and the e-communications that were designed to help us communicate with each other, actually push us further apart. Those of us who once enjoyed each others compassionate eyes and warm embraces, sometimes, in front of one television or at one dinner table find ourselves adrift and loosed from our roots, our people and our God. Instead of drifting apart, we need to reverse course because it is when we are together that we are able to stand. Therefore, we are doing something different this year.

We are having a Christmas celebration at our house. It is not enough for our Church to have worship services and Bible Studies and be done with it. While I do not know all that we will do at the celebration, we will eat, drink, and be together and give God the glory.

It will be a different Christmas.

What will you do different this Christmas?
