“Power in the Church”. Where Is It?

In this picture I am resting after a jog.  Anyway, to my thought for the day.

I love the Scripture! In Revelations 3:8 Jesus uses these words while referencing the Church at Philadelphia:

“because you have a little power…”

From God’s standpoint, which is the only standpoint that really matters, they had just a little power. He followed that first phrase up with these word:

“and have kept My word, and have not denied My name. Vs. 9. Behold, I will cause those of the synagogue of Satan, who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—I will make them come and bow down at your feet,”

It is likely that the Church wasn’t much from man’s point of view. However,  when it is God’s power it does not take a lot to get things done.  God took two fish and five loaves of bread and fed a multitude and I cannot begin to express the number of Churches and educational institutions that my forefathers built with their meager earnings.   It makes me know that when it is God’s power,  a little bit is enough.

It is clear from the text that the power that this Church had was in the stance that they took for God. Jesus said to this Church that had only a little power, that because they had kept His Word and not denied His name that He would make their enemies bow down at their feet.

The power they had was in the stance they took for God.  We can have that same power.

Let me go to a recent experience that of mine to highlight this idea.  Today I was in an area that makes me very sad.  I was especially sad because my heart bled for the children.  In my mind I was thinking, “Children should not have to grow up like this.” I was crying inside for them as I watched them.  I can’t judge the parents accurately because I don’t know what conditions put them in that position.  My only solace was that the children seemed fairly happy.  Those people that my heart bled for had what seemed like a little strength.  I would like to do my part in helping to convey to everyone who is down and out that they can have power with God.  No matter what predicament we happen to be in, there is real, workable, obtainable  power in the stance we take when we take a stand for God.  He will stand with us.

When people decide to take that first bold stance for God we should not let them stand alone.  We should stand beside them until they are steady on their feet.  When they are able to stand, they can help others.  What was it that Jesus said to Peter?  He said:

“Satan desires to have you and sift you as wheat, but I prayed for yuo that your faith fail you not and when thou art converted, strengthen the brothren.”

God bless.
