My introductory thoughts for last evening’s Bible Study forms the basis for my thought for the day which are based on Revelations 2:18, which says :
“And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: The Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet are like burnished bronze, says this:”
Revelations 2:18 describes the Son of God as having eyes like a flame of fire. Fire is frequently used in Scripture as a sign of judgement. This description of His eyes as fire is similar to a laser beam. That is what a laser beam is: fire. His eyes are not like an out-of-control wild fire. God is never out of control. Like a laser, it is the piercing kind of fire that is able to penetrate the most complex situations. It gets to the point and it burns.
Unlike regular fire which purifies by destroying most of the things it touches, God is able, with His laser-like ability, to clean the bad part of any situation in our lives, while preserving the good. Most of the time, His cleansing hurts but it saves the person. Sometimes the doctor operates with a laser. His intent is to destroy some disease, but because he does not have complete control over the laser he sometimes hurts other vital organs inside the body. In an attempt to keep that from happening he may, for example, have a liver specialist standing by in the operating room to protect the liver from the laser. God does not need a specialist. He is the specialist. His eyes are like a flame of fire. He sees both perfectly and incisively, and He is always in control. And it is because of the fact that He sees perfectly that He is able to judge perfectly.
